It feels like just a minute ago I was building my fall and winter wishlist, and now here we are—on the cusp of those hot sunny days, endless (slightly less hot) nights, and dare I say… summer getaways?
Last weekend I spent my Saturday purging my closet—riveting, I know—and discovered that nothing fits after a year of homemade banana bread and lounging around in stretchy pants. I also cleared out the mini Sephora in my bathroom and threw out all the cosmetics that I have sadly been holding on to way past their expiration date.
As I bid goodbye to my tight clothing and destabilized creams, I immediately started appreciating my newfound empty closets and the start of a minimalist lifestyle. (Just kidding, I immediately planned out everything I’m buying this summer.)
My Ultimate Summer Shopping List for 2021
Here’s some of those items on my summer shopping list:
Face and Body
If I wear nothing else on my face, I always make sure to apply the Supergoop! Unseen Sunscreen in SPF 40. It goes on clear, leaves no white cast, and can even be used under makeup as a base.
Saie Slip Tint is a tinted moisturizer that doubles as an SPF. My skin has really enjoyed being makeup-free this past year—it actually almost feels awkward to have it on these days. But I still love this because the tint feels so good and matches my skin perfectly.
As we begin to shed our masks, I predict bold lips will be a summer trend. I love a bright orange-red, and this YSL one is so pretty and universally flattering on all skin tones. Trust me!
I have also been experimenting with fake tanners because after cocooning in my NYC apartment for a year, I am, as the song goes… a whiter shade of pale. I picked up the Isles of Paradise Self Tanning Drops after hearing good things, and am loving them so far. It’s easy to apply and the results are very natural looking—what more could you want?
Apparel and Accessories
With summer comes an excuse for me to wear one of my very favorite (and completely underrated) accessories: hats! If only I could have lived in the 1940s and worn glam hats all day… but this classic straw hat from Anthropologie is a close second, and it’ll also protect your skin in style!
Speaking of Anthropologie—they have the cutest swimsuits. Just look at this one and this bikini top and bottom, perfect for easing back into swimsuit season after a long time away. And after a long day of lounging poolside, consider this white and airy dress that’s perfect for those hot summer nights.
And of course, my summer shopping list wouldn’t be complete without a new pair of Birdies! After starting with the Blackbird back when Meghan Markle was my favorite paralegal on Suits, I’ve since added the Phoebe and Starling to my wardrobe and gifted the Heron to all my female family members. Next up is the Robin, which I plan on living in all summer. They are truly just so comfortable and stylish! My feet used to wear stiletto heels on a daily basis, and now refuse anything but a soft cushion to rest on.
I could keep going, but I’ll stop for now and actually venture outside to enjoy this beautiful warm weather.
What’s on your summer shopping list? Let me know what you’re looking forward to this summer, shopping or otherwise!
